Couch Oil Cares Scholarship Program

The Couch Oil Cares Scholarship Program is an effort to help local students with the costs of higher education. Again this year, Couch Oil is teaming up with the Durham Bulls to award scholarships to 6 deserving individuals. The $1000 scholarship is available to students who have been accepted to either a four-year college or community college and reside in the 16-county area surrounding the Triangle. Download the 2020 application here  and submit by June 5, 2020.  Recipients will be recognized at the July 24, 2020 Durham Bulls game. Cornerstone Summer Institute at the University of Virginia

The Cornerstone Summer Institute is a week-long summer camp at the University of Virginia where high school students learn about slavery and its legacies by exploring the University, Charlottesville, and area landmarks. The camp provides rising high school sophomores, juniors, and seniors with the opportunity to engage in historical investigation, archaeological excavation, and community engagement in order to learn and develop thinking skills that will prepare them for success in college and beyond. For 2020, CSI will run from June 20 to 26. Come spend a week at UVA with us this summer! Applications are being accepted on a rolling basis until April 1, 2020 . Some financial aid is available for students with demonstrated need.

Zeta Phi Beta Sorority, Inc Scholarship

Zeta Phi Beta Sorority, Inc. is an international public service sorority that is comprised of over 250,000 predominately African-American women. Scholarship applications must be postmarked no later than March 15, 2020. Notification of awards will be made by end of March 2020. Previous awards have ranged from $500 to $1000. ACLU Summer Program in DC for High School Students

The  ACLU National Advocacy Institute  is the perfect place for young advocates who are eager to hone their advocacy skills and learn strategies for grassroots organizing. This week-long summer program, developed in partnership with the Close Up Foundation, ( July 22-28, 2020 ) in Washington, DC, gives students the unique opportunity to explore important social justice and civil liberties issues directly from ACLU lawyers, experts, and community activists.  Key Program Elements (To view a program overview, click here .) Electives  covering the ACLU’s wide array of issue areas. Seminars  to explore social justice and civil liberties issues. Rally  and meetings with elected officials or their staff on Capitol Hill. (Must have completed one year of high school by June 2020, and the graduating class of 2020 is welcome to apply.) 

Brady/Cobin Law Group Scholarship

The scholarship will have three prizes, ranging from $500 to $2,500. High school seniors are eligible to apply, as long as they plan to use the money to pay for college-related expenses. To apply, students must submit an essay response to one of the following prompts: What does legacy mean to you? What do you think it means to leave a legacy? Are there different kinds of valuable legacies? What sort of legacy do you want to leave behind? Imagine you are 65, retired, and looking over your will.
