THE NAOMI RABB WINSTON SCHOLARSHIP IN TWO-DIMENSIONAL ART

An annual scholarship in honor of the late Naomi Rabb Winston, a distinguished artist and mother of Shirley Rabb Winston who endowed the Winston Scholarships, is available through the National Society of Arts and Letters to visual artists ages 16 to 22. Applicants must demonstrate exceptional talent and promise of future success. The scholarship funds are for private study, special training or personal advancement in the applicants' chosen art fields. The funds can be used for college tuition and required art supplies, but not for housing, travel or personal expenses. Scholarship funds are sent to the institution, teacher or program selected by the scholarship recipient. Scholarship recipients have 15 months to use the funds. Applicants who have not received a scholarship may apply as often as their age allows. Scholarship recipients may not reapply for the scholarship, but are eligible to participate in other NSAL competitions.  Applications due to Chapters by February 1, 2019

2018 INNOVATION SCHOLARSHIP CONTEST

ELIGIBILITY To enter, students should write a 600+ word essay on the following topic: Technology advancements in motor vehicles serve the overall purpose of decreasing distractions on the road, but they often increase distractions and cause more accidents for drivers. Kurtz and Blum Essay Scholarship

High school students, undergrad and graduate students across the nation are all eligible to compete in this scholarship essay contest. The Wesleyan University Hamilton Prize for Creativity

2019 Electric Youth Tour: Free Week-long Trip to Washington, DC!

Wake Electric seeks applicants for a one-week, all expenses paid trip to Washington, D.C. for the 2019 Electric Youth Tour. Winners also receive a $1,000 scholarship. Winners must go on the Washington Trip to be eligible for the $1,000 scholarship. The trip will be from June 15 – 21, 2019. Students who attend the Youth Tour will join 1,500 high school students from across the U.S. to learn about electric cooperatives, American history and the U.S. government.   Students will also visit the historic sites and federal facilities of the nation’s capital, as well as spend time with their congressional delegations. The $1,000 scholarship will be awarded the following year upon proof of enrollment in a North Carolina college or university. Camino a la Universidad Event

The Ventanilla de Orientacion Educativa ( Window to Education ) at Raleigh will be collaborating with North Carolina State University on Saturday, December 1st, 2018  from 10 am to 4 pm  to offer a conference on college access for Spanish-speaking families. This conference, Camino a la Universidad  ( Pathway to University) , will provide various resources and information sessions about the college application process. These sessions will include a college essay writing workshop, an NC State University student panel, financial aid & scholarships and more. Elon University Teaching Fellows

The  Elon Teaching Fellows Program is a four-year sequenced, developmental and transformational $29,500 scholarship opportunity for the preparation of teachers who will become leaders in the field.  After applying to Elon, students may apply to the Fellows Programs until the deadline of January 10, 2019 .   Elon Teaching Fellows participate in purposely designed enrichment experiences such as two winter term travel courses, a faculty mentored inquiry project, and a full semester abroad of study in New Zealand which includes a five-week internship in a local school

Award amounts:   up to $4,125 a semester ($8,250 a year) Loan funds may be used to cover the cost of tuition, fees, and books. Forgivable loans may be awarded for use at one of the five partner institutions for: North Carolina high school seniors: up to 4 years Students applying to transfer to an educator preparation program: up to 3 years Students already enrolled at one of the partner institutions who transition into an educator preparation program: up to 2 years Individuals with a bachelor’s degree who are pursuing preparation for teacher licensure: up to 2 years Awards are renewable annually for Fellows who continue to meet eligibility requirements. Fellows will be required to sign a promissory note agreeing to the terms of their forgivable loans. More information on loan forgiveness and repayment is available on the  Loan Forgiveness  page.

The Opportunity Scholarship for DACA Students

Surviving the Traffic Stop: Best Practices for Citizen & Law Enforcement Interactions

All students and community members are invited to attend a discussion forum regarding citizen interactions with local police. Local attorneys as well as active & retired police personnel will provide insight on how individuals and law enforcement personnel should appropriately engage with each other in order to provide a safe outcome for all involved parties. The event will take at 10:00am on Saturday, November 10th in the Building 5 Auditorium.
