DCABP Academic, Service, and Leadership Scholarship

The Durham Committee on the Affairs of Black People (DCABP) Academic, Service & Leadership Scholarship application is now available. Two scholarships will be awarded, each worth $500. The deadline to submit an application is ‪ 5 p.m. on Tuesday, May 15. Eligibility requirements include the following: African American Durham Public Schools senior GPA 2.8 or higher Exceptional service and leadership involvement Please email any additional documents (copy of unofficial transcript and essay) to  paaceduc@gmail.com . The National Council of Negro Women Scholarship

The National Council of Negro Women, Inc. is a community service organization of Black women from all walks of life. Dr. Mary McLeod Bethune founded the National Council of Negro Women, Inc. in 1935. She perceived an urgent need for a national organization that could utilize the talents of Black women and channel them into innovative programs of advocacy and vital human services. Dr. Bethune was an advisor to several Presidents and worked very closely with Mrs. Eleanor Roosevelt. She was the founder of Bethune-Cookman College located in Daytona Beach, Florida. The National Council of Negro Women, Inc. Durham Section will give up to four awards to graduating students – male or female who reside in Durham County. The student must have been accepted at a historically black college or university. 2018 Kathrine R. Everett Scholarship

1. Applicant must be a female Durham resident enrolled as a senior in a Durham public or charter school, NCSSM, a Durham private accredited school, or be the home-schooled daughter or granddaughter of a General Davie chapter member. The candidate must have applied for admission to an accredited college or university or a college transfer program at a two-year college. By May 1, 2018 she must have been accepted to attend college. 2. The application (see below) and transcript must be received by April 14, 201 8.
