Code The Dream: Coding Classes and Paid Internship

2020 Brothers United in Leadership Development (B.U.I.L.D.) Summit

The College of Education at NC State University is excited to announce the 2020 Brothers United in Leadership Development (B.U.I.L.D.) Summit will be held on Saturday, March 28, 2020   on the main campus of North Carolina State University.  The B.U.I.L.D. Summit is an annual event designed to expose 9th-11th grade high school male students--particularly male students of color--to the diverse role of leaders in a growing global society.  The theme for this year's B.U.I.L.D. Summit is " Vision 2020: Building Confidence, Community, and Connections ". Duke’s Summer Training in Academic Research Day

We are excited to announce that we are having a Duke’s Summer Training in Academic Research (STAR) day at the Duke Clinical Research Institute (DCRI) on Saturday, November 2 nd at 10AM – 12PM. The location is at 200 Morris St. in Durham, NC. This unique summer program gives participants the opportunity to get hands-on medical research experience by working with a Duke faculty mentor on an original research project, which will be submitted for publication in a peer-reviewed journal. At the event, you will get the chance to meet some of the faculty and staff of the STAR Program. Art Contest and Art Show Opportunity

The Triangle Park Chapter of the Links, Inc. is looking for visual artists between the ages of 14 and 22 for two opportunities: (1) to display original pieces at an art showcase in late October/early November in Durham and (2) to submit an application in connection with a Call for Artists. The Call for Artists is an initiative where the organization (committed to enriching, sustaining and ensuring the culture and economic survival of African Americans and other persons of African ancestry) is requesting the submission of art works inspired by the theme “When and Where We Gather.” The winning artist's image, selected from a vision statement and submitted sample, will have his/her image reproduced and sold to benefit Southern Area programming and scholarships for students. UNC Chapel Hill High School Volunteer Program

Each summer the High School Volunteer Program runs for a period of eight weeks. We offer volunteer positions for high school students in Chapel Hill and  UNC Health Care Hillsborough Campus  sites. Student volunteers will be impacted through meaningful experiences and gain valuable job skills right here in our community. Chapel Hill offers exposure to a large academic hospital environment; the Hillsborough Campus maintains a community feel while having the same quality of providers and care. 2019 Electric Youth Tour: Free Week-long Trip to Washington, DC!

Wake Electric seeks applicants for a one-week, all expenses paid trip to Washington, D.C. for the 2019 Electric Youth Tour. Winners also receive a $1,000 scholarship. Winners must go on the Washington Trip to be eligible for the $1,000 scholarship. The trip will be from June 15 – 21, 2019. Students who attend the Youth Tour will join 1,500 high school students from across the U.S. to learn about electric cooperatives, American history and the U.S. government.   Students will also visit the historic sites and federal facilities of the nation’s capital, as well as spend time with their congressional delegations. The $1,000 scholarship will be awarded the following year upon proof of enrollment in a North Carolina college or university. Camino a la Universidad Event

The Ventanilla de Orientacion Educativa ( Window to Education ) at Raleigh will be collaborating with North Carolina State University on Saturday, December 1st, 2018  from 10 am to 4 pm  to offer a conference on college access for Spanish-speaking families. This conference, Camino a la Universidad  ( Pathway to University) , will provide various resources and information sessions about the college application process. These sessions will include a college essay writing workshop, an NC State University student panel, financial aid & scholarships and more. Duke HPREP DukeMed Pipeline program

The aim of this program is to provide additional foundation and experience for those students interested in pursuing a career in the health professions. Our program features medical students and members of the Student National Medical Association (SNMA), as well as minority professional faculty who will give lectures and interact with participants, providing essential role models and interaction opportunities rarely experienced by the underrepresented high school student. The exposure to the educational institution and hospitals allows the student to envision him/herself in a similar setting six to seven years from now and encourages him/her to overcome the academic challenges and hurdles encountered along the way. The counseling and interaction with successful medical students will also help the high school students avoid the academic pitfalls suffered by many talented high school students in their first year of college. SALUD Program at Duke University

Scholar Academy for Latinxs United for Diversity or SALUD  is an immersive semester long (two Saturdays a month) program that would allow 11th grade Latinx-identifying students to participate in sessions that would expose them to a variety of topics pertaining to medicine.  Students will spend two Saturdays a month participating in activities designed to deepen their knowledge of medical issues, especially those affecting the Latino community. Students will have the opportunity to learn from world renowned medical professionals and gain invaluable hands-on research. High School Portfolio Review Day

The Nasher invites area high school students in grades 11 and 12, who are interested in pursuing an education in the visual arts, to attend our second annual portfolio day. Representatives from area universities and museums as well as local visual artists will be on hand to review your artwork, provide feedback and advice, and answer questions in a supportive environment. This is a non-competitive and fun way to get feedback on your artwork in preparation for applying to college. Your portfolio should include 5-10 pieces of your best and most recent work, but can also include works in progress, sketchbooks and tear sheets. Come prepared to discuss your creative influences and process. This program is free and open to area high school students in grades 11 and 12. Limited slots are available and students must complete this application in advance to participate. Priority will be given to students in their senior year. Call for Applications: The Youth Justice Project

The Youth Justice Project , a project of the Southern Coalition for Social Justice , is launching our second cohort of the Youth Steering Committee in order to amplify the voices of young people who are passionate about ending the school-to-prison pipeline. We are seeking Durham applicants ages 14-18 years old who are directly impacted by the criminal justice system and/or are deeply passionate about ending the school-to-prison pipeline.
