The National Council of Negro Women Scholarship
The
National Council of Negro Women, Inc. is a community service organization of
Black women from all walks of life. Dr. Mary McLeod Bethune founded the
National Council of Negro Women, Inc. in 1935. She perceived an urgent need for
a national organization that could utilize the talents of Black women and
channel them into innovative programs of advocacy and vital human services. Dr.
Bethune was an advisor to several Presidents and worked very closely with Mrs.
Eleanor Roosevelt. She was the founder of Bethune-Cookman College located in
Daytona Beach, Florida.
The
National Council of Negro Women, Inc. Durham Section will give up to four
awards to graduating students – male or female who reside in Durham County. The
student must have been accepted at a historically black college or university.
All
application packages must include the following:
1.
A
completed application form
2.
A
Professional Aspirations and Personal Statement
This
statement should include, among other things, your educational experiences and career
goals. Indicate in which area of study you are considering majoring, and
specify how your current academic program and your overall educational plans
will assist you in achieving your goal.
3.
A
letter of acceptance to a historically black college or university
4.
Two
letters of recommendation from school officials
5.
An
official transcript, SAT and or ACT
scores
The
completed application package must be postmarked by April 24, 2018.
