NC American Chemical Society (ACS) Project SEED Program


NC-ACS Project SEED is a cost-free, statewide, year-round science enrichment program for academically talented students. The program includes a paid ($2500) summer internship. If selected, students who reside in Wake, Durham or Orange Counties will be responsible for their daily transportation to NC State, UNC-Chapel Hill or Duke University.  Students will prepare their research under the supervision of a university preceptor. Throughout the year, students will present their research at various local, state, and national science competitions.  The tentative dates for the program are
June 13 – August 2, 2019.  Project SEED is currently accepting applications from qualified 10th and 11th grade disadvantaged students.

To be eligible for the NC ACS Project SEED program, students must meet specific academic and family income requirements.  Preference is given to students whose maximum family income does not exceed 200% of the 2018 Federal Poverty Guidelines based on family size.

In addition to the family income requirement, students must meet the following criteria:
  1. Have a 3.0 weighted GPA
  2. Completed or currently enrolled in Chemistry
  3. Be in good standing at their North Carolina public high school
  4. Be a legal resident of North Carolina. Must have a Social Security number.
5.   Be currently in 10th or 11th grade
6.   Complete an application which may be found on the North Carolina American Chemical
      Society (NC-ACS) website. (See link below) Request an “official” transcript, copies of
      PSAT, SAT I, PLAN and/or ACT scores from your school counselor/registrar.   Official
      transcripts with 1st semester 2018 grades and scores should be mailed to the address
      listed below.  Each student should request that their Chemistry teacher complete a teacher
      recommendation form which may be found on the NC-ACS website. (Link is below.)
      Application and teacher recommendation must be received by January 31, 2019.  Official
      transcript and scores should be mailed and received by February 15, 2019.
